Pretreatment is the set of technologies used before the main purification stages. It prepares feed water by reducing contaminants that can damage or overload RO membranes, EDI modules, DI cartridges and final polishing stages.
Pretreatment is not a single technology. It may include sediment filtration, activated carbon, softening, antiscalant dosing, iron removal, pressure regulation and other steps depending on feed water quality.
Pretreatment helps control:
The exact design depends on the feed water analysis and the required purified water output.
Many purification problems begin before the main system. Poor pretreatment can lead to RO membrane scaling, chlorine damage, frequent cartridge exhaustion, reduced flow, unstable quality and increased operating cost.
A well-designed pretreatment section protects the system and improves long-term reliability.
