Final point-of-use filtration refers to filtration installed close to the dispensing point. Its purpose is to protect the water quality at the final stage, just before the water is collected or supplied to an instrument.
Even well-purified water can pick up particles, bacteria or leachables during storage and distribution. Point-of-use filtration provides an additional safeguard.

Different applications may require different final filters. For example, particle control for analytical applications may require a different filter than endotoxin-sensitive biological applications.
The filter is installed at the outlet, dispenser or instrument feed line. Water passes through the filter immediately before use. This reduces the risk of contamination between purification and dispensing.
Some point-of-use filters are designed for general particle and bacterial reduction, while others are designed for ultrafiltration, organic adsorption or application-specific polishing.
The final few centimeters of the water path matter. If water quality is lost at the point of use, the performance of the entire purification system is compromised.
Point-of-use filtration helps ensure that the water delivered to the laboratory application is as close as possible to the intended purified or ultrapure specification.
